SOME WORDS ABOUT FANCY’S MARKET

fancymarketWelcome to Fancy’s Market.

A 176 year-old Osterville landmark, Fancy’s was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, renowned for its social significance as well as its Greek Revival architectural style.

Founded in 1839 by Captain Harvey Scudder and his brother Erastus, Fancy’s Market began its life as the Erastus Scudder Store, serving the needs of the community since the early 19th century. For a time, the store also functioned as the Osterville Post Office.

After passing through the hands of a number of Merchant Mariners and Sea Captains, the business was sold to the E.E.C. Swift company in 1929. Founder and Cape Cod Native Gustave Swift went on to become chief of the world’s largest meat-packer, Swift & Co.

With the turn of the century, the E.E.C. Swift Store became Fancy’s Market- a cozy, gourmet market with a rich history. Steeped in the tradition of over 150 years of service to the community, Fancy’s Market is committed to creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere to accommodate your needs.
